I found this story on Reddit’s AITA community — and honestly, it hit a nerve.
The person writing it wasn’t asking for sympathy. They just wanted to know: were they wrong for what they did?
“They Ignored the Dinner I Cooked… So I Dumped It in the Trash”
The poster’s brother, sister-in-law, and two kids had been staying at their house for a few days. On the last night of the visit — after a long day of work — the host decided to cook something special: fried fish, just like their late mom used to make.
They called everyone to the table. No one came.
They called again. Still nothing.
The brother was watching football. His wife was glued to Facebook videos. The kids were deep into video games.
So the host sat down and ate dinner alone.
After finishing their plate, they asked again if anyone wanted to eat. Still no real response — just a shrug and a smoke break.
So they tossed the entire dinner in the trash.
Fried fish doesn’t reheat well. And at that point, the gesture had already been ignored.
Before going to bed, they told their brother:
“I’m not your maid. You’re not welcome to stay at my place again.”
Was That Too Harsh… Or Completely Fair?
The post ended with a simple question:
AITA?
Am I the a**hole for standing up for myself, after doing something nice and being completely ignored?
Thousands of Reddit users had opinions. And honestly? So do we.
What Do You Think?
Was tossing the food an overreaction? Or was this the only way to make them realize how rude they were being?
